Top Indian batsman Rinku Singh is reportedly getting threats from some serious criminals. The Mumbai Crime Branch is looking into this, and they've found out that the Dawood Ibrahim gang (also known as D-company) is behind it.
Apparently, Rinku's people who handle his sponsorships and endorsements got three separate ransom requests between February and April. The D-company guys wanted a total of 5 crore Indian rupees.
Two guys, Mohammed Dilshad and Mohammed Naveed, were caught in the West Indies and sent back to India on August 1. Before this, they were arrested for trying to get 10 crore rupees from Zeeshan Siddiqui, who's the son of the late Baba Siddiqui, a former politician. According to a report on TV9, one of these suspects admitted that they contacted Rinku's team about the ransom.
Rinku played for India most recently in the last game of the Asia Cup 2025. In that big match against Pakistan on September 28 at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Rinku scored four runs off one ball, which helped India win by five wickets.
He's planning to play again soon in the five-match T20I series against Australia. The first game is set for October 29 in Canberra. Everyone's waiting to see him back in action after all this trouble. The police investigation is ongoing, and security around Rinku has probably been increased. It is a worrying situation for any athlete to face such kind of intimidation. Hope authorities are taking all the necessary precautions.
