Shreyas Iyer Pulls Off A Stunner, Aus 183/4 vs India in 3rd ODI

Shreyas Iyer pulled off a sensational catch running back from backward point to dismiss Alex Carey in the 34th over. Carey tried to slap a back-of-length delivery from Harshit Rana down the ground but ended up getting a top edge that flew high toward deep third. It seemed the ball would land safely, but Iyer sprinted back at full tilt, kept his eyes on the ball, and completed a stunning tumbling catch. Carey departed for 24, leaving Australia at 183 for 4. Iyer, who is also the vice-captain, later walked off the field after picking up an injury during the effort.

Earlier, Virat Kohli had taken a splendid catch to dismiss Matthew Short at forward square off Washington Sundar’s bowling in the 23rd over. Short, who was looking in good touch, scored 30 runs off 41 balls. He had earlier made 74 runs off 78 balls in the second ODI, which played a key role in Australia’s victory and in sealing the three-match ODI series.

Before Short’s dismissal, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, and captain Shubman Gill were seen discussing field placements — a conversation that was immediately followed by the wicket.

Notably, India lost the toss and were put in to field first. This could also be Virat’s last series in Australia. Gill, appointed as India’s ODI captain before the series, is being seen as the one to lead the team in the 2027 ODI World Cup. Before him, Rohit Sharma had captained India to victories in the 2024 T20 World Cup and the 2025 Champions Trophy.
