Virat Kohli took a splendid catch of Matthew Short at forward square off Washington Sundar’s bowling in the 23rd over of the third ODI against Australia.
Short, who was looking in good touch, scored 30 runs off 41 balls. He had earlier made 74 runs off 78 balls in the second ODI, which played a key role in Australia’s win over India and in clinching the three-match ODI series.
Before Washington dismissed Short in the 23rd over, Virat, KL Rahul, and current captain Shubman Gill were seen discussing field placement — a move that was followed by the crucial wicket.
Notably, India lost the toss and were put in to field first. This could also be Virat’s last series in Australia.
Gill, who was appointed captain of the Indian ODI team before this series, is being seen as the one to lead the side in the 2027 ODI World Cup. Before him, Rohit Sharma captained India and led the team to victories in the 2024 T20 World Cup and the 2025 Champions Trophy.
