Historic! South Africa Fall to Namibia in First International Face-off

Namibia delivered a remarkable performance to defeat South Africa by four wickets in a last-ball T20I finish, securing a historic first win over an ICC full member on Saturday.

In their first international match on home soil at the Namibia Cricket Ground, the hosts restricted South Africa to 134 for eight. They then chased down the target on the final ball of the innings, sparking celebrations and a lap of honour.

This was the first international match between Namibia, an ICC Associate member, and South Africa in any format.

The victory came on the same day that Namibia fulfilled their long-standing dream of owning a cricket facility in their own country, providing added motivation to overcome a second-string South African side led by Donovan Ferreira.

The main South African team, captained by Aiden Markram, is currently in Pakistan for a two-Test series followed by six white-ball matches.

South Africa were struggling at 68 for 5 despite having experienced players like Quinton de Kock and Reeza Hendricks at the top. Jason Smith, playing only his second T20I, added some stability with a 30 off 31 balls.

Namibia’s 27-year-old left-arm pacer Ruben Trumpelmann impressed with figures of 3 for 28.

In response, Namibia's top order also faltered, slipping to 66 for 4. However, veteran wicketkeeper-batter Zane Edward Green, in his 72nd T20I, remained unbeaten on 30 from 23 balls. Trumpelmann contributed 11 off 8 deliveries, guiding Namibia to 138 for 6 on the final ball.
